INTERNATIONAL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY HOME SCHOOL POLICY

  • RATIONALE:
    1. To define the scope of work of an ICA teacher handling Home School pupil.
    2. To define the teaching incentive given to Home School class adviser and subject teachers.
  • SPECIFICS:
    1. ICA offers Elementary level Home Schooling ,Grades 1-6 on a year round Schedule
    2. Admission procedure and requirement follows that of a regular student.
    3. Tuition and other fees are based on an approved ICA Home School Payment Schedule
    4. ICA teachers are assigned as class adviser or subject teachers as per Home School Student’s grade placement.
    5. Assigned class adviser and subject teachers shall receive an honorarium in a 50-50 % sharing basis with ICA.
  • PROCEDURE:
    • A
      1. Referrals and inquiries for Home School Program from DepEd and new enrollees will undergo pre-admission process at the Academic office.
      2. Submission of requirements and testing schedule through the Registrar’s Office.
      3. Academic schedule and assignment of teachers is through the Academic office.
      4. Academic forms and grades to be submitted to the Registrar’s office at the end of the year for official academic recording and issuance of academic forms.
      5. Additional teaching assignment of teachers for information and reporting to HRD and Finance Manager.

      1. HOME SCHOOL TEACHER JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
        • An ICA teacher of the grade level of the incoming Home School pupil may be assigned as class adviser.
        • All subject teachers of the grade level are required to submit subject requirements of topics, homework, project, research work per quarter to the class adviser.
        • Quarterly written outputs, exams to be checked and graded by the subject teacher/s.
        • Class adviser and subject teachers may request for pupil’s physical appearance to complete activities or hands on lab work and attend school events for peer interaction as may be permitted by the Home Schooling pupil’s schedule.
        • Class adviser to consolidate grades submitted by subject teachers per agreed schedule.
        • Class adviser to coordinate with student, parents and home tutors to facilitate Home and ICA academic work requirement.
    • INCENTIVE:
      • Class Adviser will receive: 25%
      • Subject teachers will receive: 25%
    • EFFECTIVITY: (ICA ELEM HOME SCHOOL PROGRAM was approved December 16, 2003 SY 2003-2004)
      • Policy on incentive is upon the approval of the administrative committee.

ICA ELEMENTARY HOME SCHOOL GUIDELINES

  1. TEACHER PARENT
    • Teach all subjects at home and grade your child in quizzes, recitation, SW/project & CONDUCT. Use ICA form & submit during quarter exams schedule.
    • Simulate a school class schedule at home for the child to follow.
    • Create a home school corner to encourage child to work diligently and independently.
    • Integrate home activities, chores, family weekends, shopping, or events in any subject to enhance life application skills.
      • Example: 1. Weekend shopping:
        • Math application of lessons in 4 fundamentals, problem solving, comparison of price tags, order of shelves, sizes of goods, etc.
        • English - Composition writing about “My Grocery Day” using spelling & vocabulary words learned during the week or quarter. Writing a “Story “about food preparation and buying for family events..etc.
        • Singing / Dancing/Exercising / Games in relation with PE, Music & Arts
        • SCIENCE – visiting Science fairs /exhibits, watching good films or TV programs in Discovery channel, reading related resource books./magazines/materials.
        • Social Studies (Civics) – Learning and appreciating the culture of the place where you live, common traditions and customs observed or practiced, etc.
      • Example: 2. Sunday Church Worship & activities – integrate this with Bible lessons:
    • e. Use home library for additional references , come to ICA Media Centre as needed of visit public libraries

  2. ICA TEACHER
    • Provide Scope & Sequence /Mid Quarter & Quarter Exams
    • Schedule & Administer Mid-Quarter & Quarter Exams in ICA
    • Supervise pupil for school hands-on activity as required in Science, MAPEH or other subjects.
    • CLASS ADVISER to invite pupil to classroom activities and celebrations during the year for socialization and fellowship.
    • Long distance Home School students may e-mail or send their written work or projects to ICA academic office.
    • Submission of Mid Quarter & Quarter Exams maybe course thru e-mail or FEDEX or a friend/family member visiting/traveling to Manila.

HOME SCHOOL GRADING GUIDELINES:

  1. Parent-Tutor will use the Home School class record/grading sheet/consolidated sheet in grading the student in the following areas :
    • Quizzes
    • Communication Skills
    • Recitation
    • Seatwork
    • Themes/Project/ & Conduct per quarter
  2. (For Manila residents only) The student must bring his notebooks, textbooks with completed activities or seatwork, project/themes (composition) for ICA subject teacher checking during mid-quarter or quarter exams days.
  3. Parent-tutor will enter all raw scores of quizzes, recitation, seatwork, project/conduct (based on the ICA 10 CHARACTER TRAITS CHECKLIST)
  4. Submit or email (al_bandong @yahoo.com) a copy of quarter home assessment to class adviser for quarter grade consolidation.

ALTERNATIVE COURSE OFFERING:

HOME STUDY ELEMENTARY PROGRAM GR.1-6

DepEd approved course providing an alternative access to basic education for those who cannot attend regular formal classes for some valid reasons:
  • having chronic illness
  • pupils with parents assigned to work abroad and would like to avail of ICA Christian education (long distance home school)
  • those who exceeded the normal school age
  • being a celebrity
  • employment or early marriage
  • Requirements:
    1. Parents as teachers of own child/ren, thus recognizing their significant role in the education of their children. Parents with 4 year baccalaureate degree or education courses are qualified.
    2. Close coordination and monitoring by ICA for curriculum, grading system and parent training.
    3. Home school students reports to ICA for mid-quarter and quarter exams days , join school outbound educational activities and hands on / lab activities as required.

        2. Form 138 for transferee
        3. Birth Certificate
        4. Medical records
        5. 2x2 picture (4 pcs.)
        6. Testing Fee
      • Parent
        1. Transcript of records (Baccalaureate Degree)

    5. Year round enrollment
